Remember me ?
I have a question for this community.
I know how to embed Windows Media Player and how to use playlists with it.
The code for embedding the player looks like :

Code: Select all

My playlist Carolin_afspeellijst.asx looks like :

Code: Select all
<Asx Version="3.0">

Carolin_afspeellijst

      <Ref href="K:\Go_on_forever\JUST_A_START\AutoScreenRecorder_02 Jun. 27 15.06.avi" />

AutoScreenRecorder_01 Jun. 27 15.01.avi

      <Ref href="K:\Go_on_forever\JUST_A_START\AutoScreenRecorder_01 Jun. 27 15.01.avi" />

</Asx>

My only option are :
  • Autoplay the list
  • Those 2 little controls Image and Image to browse the playlist.
Is there any way i can display "current playing media info" or browse the playlist a more understandable way ?
Thanks in advance for replying.

Hi tellmewhy,

I PM'd you at your forum just the other day to say hi but I din't get a reply :-(

I'll take a look at this for you in the next couple of days (bit tied up with Videophile II v1.4.0 at the moment). TestOmaX is a helpful guy who's always around - maybe he already knows the answer?...

I'm no expert either in this area of web development.

Maybe the solution is to provide additional navigation for the playslist via a list of links (of the files that make up the playlist) beside the player? That would be easy enough to do I'd have thought. Depends how the page is built I suppose. If using PHP\ASP then this would be quite easy; parse the asx playlist file and extract all the filenames with which to build the list...

If you follow....

I think he wants to control the component in runtime (without reloading the page)
This should be possible using DOM with scripting, but i dont know the practical sollution for it.
msdn and google are your best bet

Pure HTML code used for building the "website" if may call it that.
I'm just a beginner and i'm just doing some self learning in this area.
I have implemented something like you suggested here - a list of all files in the playlist with an active link to their location.

My question was/is :
  • Can i display the file info of the current playing file ? (an easy way)
  • Is it possible (using Windows Media Player as embedded player and an ASX file as playlist), in stead of browsing the playlist in sequence, to point out/to select the file i want to be play ?

I did quite a lot of Googling about the subject of embedding but didn't found a solution.
That's why i came to the experts in the area of video manipulation.

EDITED :

I have implemented a work around.
As ASX file type are associated with the Windows Media PLayer, i have placed a link on my webpage to it.
As a result the WMP opens outside the webbrowser with the playlist open.
Here i can browse/change/ ....
Of course more solutions/other solutions are more then welcome.

In fact you have 3 parameters for controling whats been displayed of the media player.
They are :

Code: Select all

The parameter ShowStatusBar displays the file information.
So this is the first step to a solution.

If you want to interact with the activex component (whatever direction) you will need either scripting, a java applet, an other activex component, that is able to exchange data with the component and update the webpage to reflect what is played etc, or in reverse to play an other entry from a list.

The most simple is DOM scripting as i said.
Try the site www.hotscripts.com you might find exactly what you need there or something to modify to your needs.

For my two cents, it would seem that your solution assumes that WMP is associated with ASX files, and that may not be true; far better to investigate a generic solution - worth the effort in the long run.....
